Free visa to India
may reduce the travel expenses and increase the number of pilgrims to Buddha Gaya
said U Maung Maung Myint, deputy chairperson of the Buddha Gaya Pilgrimage Work
Committee. The joint statement of Myanmar and India said that the Indian
Government had decided to grant free visas to all Myanmar citizens except
e-visa. ‘The embassy will soon make the announcement (on granting free visas).
Granting free visas can reduce the expenses. I hope it can make the number of
visitors higher,' said U Maung Maung Myint. Since there are between 30,000 and 40,000 Myanmar visitors to India almost every year, the tourism business
executives are hoping very much that granting free visas will increase the number further.
The new visa conditions are expected to lead to an increase in the number of Myanmar pilgrims to Buddha Gaya
